FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can you paint a roof?

Yes, you can paint a roof. Roof painting is a common practice to enhance the appearance of a home and protect the roofing material from weather damage. The process involves thorough cleaning, repairs if necessary, and applying a suitable roof coating. Proper preparation and the use of high-quality, weather-resistant paint are crucial for a successful roof painting job. It’s important to choose the right type of paint for your specific roofing material to ensure durability and effectiveness. We have over 35 years of experience in roof painting and roof restoration. We even developed our own heat-reflective brand called Roofguard Solar Reflect.

2. Can you paint tiled roof?

Tile roofs can be painted, but it requires careful consideration and proper techniques. The process typically involves cleaning the tiles thoroughly, repairing any damaged tiles, and applying a primer before the final paint coats. Specialised roof tile paint should be used to ensure adhesion and longevity. It is important to consider where your roof has a moisture barrier or not, as paint alone will not “seal” your roof and prevent leaks.

3. Can you paint Colorbond roof?

Colorbond roofs can be painted, especially when the original coating has deteriorated. Colorbond roofs can have a heat-reflective coating applied or simple change or enhance an existing colour. If you decide to paint a Colorbond roof, it requires specific preparation and paint types to ensure proper adhesion and avoid damaging the existing finish. Professional assessment and application are recommended for the best results.

4. Does heat-reflective paint work only on roofs?

While heat-reflective paint is most commonly associated with roof applications, its benefits are not limited to roofs alone. Our Roofguard Solar Reflect specialised paint can be applied to various exterior surfaces of a building, including walls and other structures. When applied to walls, it can help reduce heat absorption, potentially lowering interior temperatures and energy costs. However, the most significant impact is typically seen when used on roofs, as they receive the most direct sunlight.

5. How long does it take to paint a house?

The time it takes to paint a house varies depending on several factors, including the size of the house, its condition, the number of stories, the complexity of the architecture, and weather conditions. On average, painting the exterior of a typical single-story home might take 3-5 days, while a larger two-story home could take 5-10 days. Interior painting generally takes less time, with a 3-bedroom house potentially taking 3-5 days. These are rough estimates, and the actual time can be longer if extensive preparation or repairs are needed.

6. How much does it cost to paint a house?

The cost of painting a house varies widely based on factors such as the size of the house, the scope of work, the quality of paint used, the condition of the surfaces, and labour costs in your area. For exterior painting, you might expect to pay anywhere from $4,500 to $8,000 for a small block house, and $7,000 to $15,000 for a larger single storey block home. Interior painting costs can range from $5,000 to $12,000 for an average-sized home. High-end paints, complex architectural features, or the need for extensive prep work can increase these costs significantly. Queenslander homes require even more complex prep system and paint application and if they have not been maintained regularly, exterior or interior painting of a Queenslander usually costs from $20000.00 onward.

7. How often should you paint your house?

The frequency of house painting depends on various factors, including the type of siding, quality of previous paint job, and local climate. Here in the tropics, where high humidity and relentless UV are present for most of the year, exteriors should be painted every 5-10 years. Interiors typically need repainting every 5-10 years, but high-traffic areas may require more frequent touch-ups. Exterior timber structures and surfaces may need recoating every 2-4 years depending on the coatings used. Regular inspections can help determine when repainting is necessary to maintain your home’s protection and appearance.
